A twofer of sorts: a celebration of the beautiful symphonies of Tchaikovsky and a tribute to the recently departed Mstislav Rostropovich, who's heard here with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He was able to tap deep into the reservoir of emotions that Tchaikovsky poured into his six numbered symphonies, which here join his Manfred Symphony and two of the composer's most admired tone poems: Romeo and Juliet and Francesca da Rimini .
