Small Scrotum & More

Small Scrotum & More

simmering scrotum
I am 18 and have been sexually active for the past year or so. I am concerned with the size of my scrotum. It is quite small and keeps my testicles very close to my body. At first I just
thought it hadn't developed yet, however, I am near my full height and my penis has stopped growing for a while.

I am wondering if it could be damaging for the testicles to be so close to the body. Are they at risk of overheating?

Hi Corey,

The testicles are surprisingly sensitive to heat. Tight-fitting boxers, laptops and prolonged road trips have all been pointed to as parties responsible for overheating the testes, leading to a reduction in semen production and fertility. Physical factors have also been implicated in this regard: Sterility has been linked to obesity, in that the excess layers of fat that surround the scrotum jack up its temperature.

Infertility from overheating, however, has yet to be popularly attributed to a small scrotum. And logic dictates that it wouldn't be — no matter how close the scrotum clings to the body, the bulk of it would remain exposed to the open air (as opposed to what we see in particularly obese men, whose scrotums are sometimes completely enveloped in fat). So I would think you're in the clear — although hearing it straight from your doctor will likely put you more at ease.

Donald Zimmer; a slippery slope
My girlfriend has been telling me that recently when we're having sex she gets "too wet" and that it numbs her up and she can't orgasm. Is that possible? I have no idea what to do, please help!

Andrew,

Your girlfriend isn't bluffing: The inhibition of the female orgasm by excess lubrication is in fact quite a common problem. While most of us instinctively think of lubricant as a sexual facilitator, in surplus amounts it can form a barrier between the clitoris and the penis or finger seeking to stimulate it.

One rather direct solution is to simply have your girlfriend wipe herself down with a towel intermittently during intercourse. Of course, this isn't a terribly sexy addition to your lovemaking. An alternative remedy which has worked for many women is to take an antihistamine, which dries out mucous membranes, before sex.

Donald Zimmer; an unlikely leak
I would like to know if it is possible for the prostate to leak into the anus, making semen or prostate fluid come out of the anus along with feces. I apologize if that was graphic but I have noticed a mucus-like substance when I defecate, and it looks like semen. Is this humanly possible, and if so, what is wrong with me?

Hello Harold,

The chances of your prostate spontaneously leaking fluid into your anus are about as likely as your heart spontaneously leaking blood into your lungs. Proximity alone won't do it. You'd have to suffer some kind of serious anal or urethral trauma to see this happen, and I presume that you would remember if you had.

The mucus that you see in your feces may be the result of an ulcer that has perforated the colonic wall and irritated the mucus that lines it. Or it may just be the product of a poor diet. If you go through an extended period of not eating, your digestive tract will continue to produce mucus which will then be expelled in lieu of the digested food. Your best bet is to have your doctor refer you to a specialist to check it out.

Donald Zimmer; smelly secretions
My girlfriend and I sometimes have sex up to five times per day. When she orgasms, she usually discharges a lot of liquid and, besides at first having to change the sheets frequently (we've since starting laying a towel or two underneath her) it sometimes smells like pee. Is she peeing when she orgasms and is this normal?

Nick,

The process of vaginal discharge is typically a normal and, in fact, healthy one. It's essentially the body's way of keeping the vagina clean; the milky liquid that is released is comprised in part of old cells that line the organ's walls, flushed out to make room for new ones.

Not all discharge, however, is healthy discharge. A good indication that things are not as they should be is when the liquid is accompanied by a strong odor. A pee-like smell that comes after sex is often a symptom of bacterial vaginosis. This condition isn't nearly as frightening as it may sound; bacterial vaginosis is basically an imbalance in the bacteria and acidity of the vagina, and can be remedied by a simple regimen of antibiotics.

Or it could be as simple as her not drinking enough water throughout the day (dehydration). A trip to the gynecologist should provide your girlfriend with both a solid prognosis and a solution.

Donald Zimmer; sexual surplus
My husband and I have sexual problems. I am a freak; ready and willing to please him in any way, shape or form (with the exception of him being with somebody else). I will let him watch me as I do another female or let him do me while I do another female, but I don't like to share at all! The question is: How to I spark his interest in sex and keep it?

At one point he couldn't keep his hands off me. Now I can barely get him to put them on. I would just like to keep him interested, and was wondering if y'all had any advice? I'm not an ugly woman; I have put on some weight but my breasts went from a 36B to a 42DD. When they were smaller I had no feeling in them at all; now it's a whole different story! Plus I like the benefits that they bring to the bedroom.

Alexandra,

I think the source of your problem can be best summarized as follows: You can have too much of a good thing. In other words, your husband's current lack of interest may be the consequence of his having enjoyed free rein in the bedroom for so long. There's a lot to be said for keeping some forbidden fruit in a relationship; in the absence of taboos, every sexual act can become commonplace.

I'm no therapist, Alexandra, and you may eventually conclude that a therapist is required. But in the meantime, try doing a little withholding. You'll be surprised at how much more we want what we can't have.

Donald Zimmer; premature pregnancy
Is it possible to get a woman pregnant from pre-ejaculate, and if so, is it possible without full penetration?

Hi Edwin,

The function of pre-ejaculate fluid is to coat the urethra, so as to ease the passage of sperm during ejaculation. The pre-ejaculate itself does not contain sperm, but if there is residual semen left in the urethra from a previous ejaculation, it may be pushed out along with the pre-ejaculate. In this sense, yes, it is possible to get a woman pregnant from pre-ejaculate — but the chances of this happening are still very slim.
